L- packing for Hawaii. L- has lately been packing tote bags. “I’m packing to go to Hawaii!” she says. When she first announced that a couple days ago, I told her to make a list so she wouldn’t forget anything. So, she sat down and write a bunch of letters on a piece of paper. Then she got a bag and filled it with stuff from all corners of the house. (Rats, so much for THAT prevention strategy).
Today she even packed a bag for me. I have yet to open it and discover what she considers essential for a trip. Yesterday, in her travel bag, I discovered:
a ziplock bag of wooden toy fruit
wooden sushi AND
the missing TV remote (note, no TV)

Hey, I’m not THAT short… Today’s funny story comes as we were driving home from dinner.
L-: Mommy, I saw someone shorter than you! A-: They must be a dwarf!
;-) -Angela
Garbage. Jan is leaving with L. to take her to school when L. sees that the garbage man is putting our garbage in the truck. Jan talks all about garbage, yard waste, and recycling on the way to school. Out walking with Angela that afternoon, L. tells Angela, “Daddy knows a lot about garbage.” -Jan
Girls learn a knock-knock joke. The girls have learned about knock-knock jokes from an episode of The Backyardigans. L. doesn’t quite get concept of the Banana/Orange joke. When she tells the joke, the punchline she gives is, “… and then Austin [a character on show] laughed and laughed and laughed.”
We went to see Yo-Yo Ma at Benaroya Hall.
A. and L. had a friend over for dinner.

L. has moved up to a real booster seat!
Jan feels Pixie kick for first time.
L. finally gets her first pair of new (not hand me down) shoes!

Angela takes her, and usually brings A. along as well. This morning L’s tap teacher was late getting to class. A. entertained all the waiting three year olds for ten minutes by running around the room, sitting down, and pretending that her stockinged foot was a little puppet.

Only one said no: the school we liked the least. Two others waitlisted A-, one waitlisted L-. Our top two choices both said yes to A-. Whew. Now all we have to do is decide which one to pick.
Culture month. March has turned into Culture Month: a number of events we bought tickets for a long while back turned out to all fall in the same few weeks. We’ve gone to the symphony for Yo-Yo Ma, the Pacific Northwest Ballet (Hansel and Gretel), the symphony again for Beethoven’s “Triple” Concerto (plus some modern crashing stuff we’d just as soon have missed), then the Pacific Northwest Ballet again. It’s all been good, but we’re in the mood for a dopey action movie now.
Easter party at preschool, with brunch, egg hunt, and games…. This family message was sent from Cozi Central to Blog (email): Easter party at preschool, with brunch, egg hunt, and games. A high school girl helping to run a penny toss game lets L- keep some “lucky pennies”. L- tells the girl that the girl has a lot of pennies, “but you’re not as lucky as the bank.”

We usually drop off the girls with some snacks to eat while they’re there. Nevertheless, the girls generally prefer to eat the snacks offered by the facility–even when their snacks are the same as ours. As one staffer puts it: “Our goldfish are better than yours.” :)

The spring weather is now nice enough that we can open up a few windows around the house.
Does Pixie come from Pixel? In response to an earlier post, Skye asked: “Does Pixie come from Pixel?” Answer: Yes, Pixie does comes from pixel. We had an ultrasound very early on, when Angela was only about six or seven weeks pregnant. The ultrasound technician had to keep zooming in, but eventually we could see the baby as the tiny clump of pixels on the big screen. The pixels were changing color, showing blood flow. We asked if that was the baby’s heart. The technician said, “Hmm, not really, more like a tube at this point. It’s somewhat surprising that we can see anything like that at this stage. That must have just started pumping in the last 24 hours.” So that’s how we ended up with Pixie as our “code name” for baby number three. -Jan
L. isn’t feeling well.
So we stayed at home and had a little tea party. The girls like doing it with rooibos tea.
