Bree and Liya go back to school. Bree enters 3rd grade, and will have Ms. Lord as her teacher. Both Anya and Liya had her for 3rd grade, too, and it’s nice to be back in her classroom. Liya enters 8th grade, her last year at her K–8 school.
The school year at Anya’s new school kicks off with convocation, which the whole school (and many parents) attend. Immediately afterward, Anya and the rest of the 9th grade leave on buses for a 3-day retreat at the Seabeck Conference Center.
The cats like their cat tree. Moxie always claims the spot on top, and Mojo settles for the second-highest level.
Jan takes Anya to see the “Art of the Brick” exhibit at the Pacific Science Center. Angela, Liya, and Bree had seen the exhibit earlier, and thought it was just okay, but Anya and Jan think it’s pretty cool. Here’s a bust of Nerifiti done in Lego.
Anya takes a short ride on the science center’s bike that balances on a rail.
Liya posts this drawing on her bedroom door. It remains unexplained.
The eighth graders are assigned their kindergarten buddies. Liya and her buddy, Vivienne, hit it off immediately!
Bree makes a Lego diorama of a Starbucks to ask Jan her weekend question. There’s a little barista getting coffee, a cashier, and a variety of patrons. The woman with the blue bow is looking at the newspaper stand, which contains a tiny folded piece of paper. When unfolded, the paper asks: “Do you want to go to Starbucks for breakfast?”
